May 10-11, 2022: Setting off on the 318 Sichuan-Tibet Line Cycling Journey

May 10, 2022

Departed from Shenzhen North at 10:30 am for Chengdu

Originally planned to depart on May 9th, but because of the move on May 8th from the University Town area back to the Fu Yong subway area, which took the whole day. The original plan was to cycle 60 kilometers in Shenzhen, then go for a run, exercise a bit more, and then head to Chengdu.

So, on May 9th, we decided to delay our departure to Chengdu by one day. Exercise is still necessary; even if it’s last-minute preparation, it’s still beneficial.

Then, arrived in Chengdu around 7 pm on May 10th.

After getting out of the station, a nucleic acid test was taken according to the epidemic prevention requirements.

Around 9 pm, took the subway to the subway station near the 57 Sichuan-Tibet Service Station. After getting out of the station, we followed the navigation and walked for about 20 minutes to the Sichuan-Tibet Service Station.

Due to the epidemic, there were not many cyclists at the service station, just a few people. After arranging our rooms, we went out together for a meal of twice noodles, and then went to the pharmacy to buy some common medicines such as cold, diarrhea, heatiness, and band-aids.

May 11th

Today, rented a mountain bike for 800 yuan for 30 days, a Merida mountain bike, then rode to the 57 service station’s bike shop to adjust the bike, bought some snacks, and then had free activities.

In the evening, at the service station, we did some basic training, bought accident insurance, and the Sichuan-Tibet line manual, which detailed the detailed information to be passed along the way, precautions, difficulties, as well as inns and rescue phone numbers on the road.

Most of the places we stayed along the way were 57 cooperative accommodations, generally including breakfast and dinner, that is, the night’s accommodation + dinner + breakfast the next day. Most places in Sichuan are 80 yuan for breakfast and dinner, some inns may have price fluctuations, such as 90 or 100, but most are around 80 yuan, cost-effective. After arriving in the Tibet region, due to the cost of living and other reasons, it may exceed 80 yuan. Based on my experience along the way, most places are around 100 yuan for breakfast and dinner. If some inns are too expensive, you can find cheaper inns.

Why did we choose to stay in cooperative inns? In addition to the cost-effectiveness, then you can get the meet card. When you reach a certain number of meet cards, you can get a certificate and medal in Lhasa, which can be kept as a souvenir.

In addition, it is a complete service line with luggage service. If you stay at a cooperative inn, you can pack the unused items into the luggage bag and leave it at the inn the next day. The owner of the next stop will come in the morning and take the luggage that needs the luggage service in advance and bring it to the inn in advance. In this way, you only need to bring snacks, clothes, and water for the day, and you can go light. The luggage service in Sichuan is basically free, and it may be charged in the Tibet region, generally around 10 to 20 yuan. I started with luggage once, and then I didn’t have a lump, although it was much easier, but later I thought that riding the Sichuan-Tibet line was not originally a blessing, and then I brought it all the way by myself.

In addition, there are two brothers setting off tomorrow, one elder brother, and one elder sister, plus my friend and me, a total of 6 people.

After the training, we went back to the room to prepare and rest. Although tomorrow is the first day, the itinerary is 130 kilometers. We have never cycled such a long distance. The farthest distance I have ever cycled is more than 90 kilometers, and I haven’t ridden a mountain bike for 2 years. Tomorrow is a very big challenge.

We will set off at 7 am tomorrow, and we have to get up at about 6 am to pack up, so good night!
